Department of Criminalistics
The Department of Criminalistics of Belarusian State University (BSU) was formed as an independent structural unit of the Faculty of Law of the Belarusian State University in 1972. Since its inception to the present time, the department has been one of the leading educational and scientific forensic centers of the Republic of Belarus. Over the years, the Department of Criminalistics, in cooperation with other departments of the Faculty of Law, has trained numerous highly qualified specialists who work in government organizations, prosecutor's offices, effectively conduct criminal investigations, and are highly proficient in their fields of expertise. Thanks to the efforts of the Department’s lecturers and scientists, the original Belarusian scientific school of Criminalistics was born, extending its influence to other educational and scientific institutions of Belarus and well beyond.
The creation of the Department and its subsequent formation and development are inextricably linked with the name of the famous criminologist, doctor of laws, professor, honored scientist of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Vasilievich Dulov. Leading the department until 1990, Dulov put together a well-coordinated team of scientists, teachers and staff members, organized effective work process and earned credit for good scientific and technical equipment of the forensic laboratory.
From 1990 to 2016, the department was headed by PhD in Law, Associate Professor Shumak Georgiy Aleksandrovich. In his work, he paid great attention to the training of young scientists of the department, the continuity of scientific traditions and teaching experience of representatives of the older and younger generations of teachers.
Since April 2016, the department has been headed by Doctor of Law, Professor Vyacheslav Borisovich Shabanov. Under his leadership, the following were created: a forensic training ground with historical aspects of teaching criminalistics; the composition of the equipment of the forensic laboratory of the department was updated. As part of the implementation of the idea of professor Dulov at BSU, Shabanov continued the development of the original Belarusian scientific school of criminalistics and created a system of practice-oriented training. A branch of the Criminalistics Department was organized on the basis of the central office of the Investigative Committee.
