Alexander Barkov was born on March, 21 1947.
He graduated from Law Faculty BSU in 1972 with honours.
In 1972 Alexander Barkov worked in prosecutor's office of Sovietski district (Minsk) and Pervomaiski district (Minsk).
In 1977 Alexander Barkov defended candidate's thesis “Criminal law means stimulating crime clearance”.
Since August 1972 Alexander Barkov has been working at the Criminal Law Department of Law Faculty, BSU as a Junior Lecturer, then Lecturer, and Associate Professor.
From December 1988 till June 2005 he was the Criminal Law Department Chair of Law faculty, BSU.
In May 2005 Alexander Barkov received an academic rank of Professor.
Since November 2006 Alexander Barkov has been working as a deputy director of Institute of Professional Retraining of Judges, Prosecutor's Office, Court and Justice Establishments Personnel, BSU (IRPD). He is responsible for research and methodological work of the Institute.
Since April 2008 Alexander Barkov has been working as a Chair of the Court procedure department of the abovementioned Institute.
His research interests are: basic trends of criminal legislation development, conceptions of modern Criminal Codes, issues of criminal law policy.
The total number of his publications is more than 120 including a monograph “Criminal legislation and crime clearance”. He is an author of 7 textbooks and a number of tutorials.
Alexander Barkov is an editor and author of 4 Commentaries on Criminal Code (1989, 2003, 2007, 2010).
Alexander Barkov lectures on Criminal Law and Issues of Criminal Law Policy.
He was awarded with: an honorary title “Honoured Lawyer of the Republic of Belarus” (2000); a title “Honoured Worker of Justice” (2004); an honorary letter of National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus (2007). Alexander Barkov was awarded with a medal “80 years of Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Belarus”. He is an Honoured Staff Member of BSU.
Alexander Barkov is a member of Academic council of IRPD, Law Faculty, BSU and Research and Practical Center of Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus.
From 1998 till 2003 he was a member of Law Advisory Council of President of the Republic of Belarus.
Alexander Barkov is a member of Pardon Board. He is a member of Research advisory board of Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus, Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus and Department of Justice of the Republic of Belarus.
Alexander Barkov is a member of editorial staff of the journals “Justitsia Belarusi” and “Zakonnost & Pravoporiadok”.
Alexander Barkov has been a member of Academic council of BSU for more than 15 years.
He is a member of Interdepartmental Committee on Issues of Theses Research in Law.
Alexander Barkov is an academic secretary of Doctoral Thesis Defence Council.
Alexander Barkov was a member, then a head of working group which worked on the draft of Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
He took part in designing of Criminal Code Model for CIS member-countries.
Alexander Barkov supervided 7 candidates of sciences.
